If the eyes indeed are the window to the soul, the characters in HBO’s second iteration of True Detective either are deliberately being shrouded in mystery or they’re simply soulless. Maybe both. The premium cabler today revealed individual posters of the four stars of its drama series, and all strategically cut off right at nose level.

The eight-episode sophomore season moves the action to Los Angeles and revolves around three cops (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams) and a career crook (Vince Vaughn) who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. Round 2 of the Emmy-nominated series, sans Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, et al., premieres June 21.

But why the precise cropping on the posters, Deadliners? Have a look at all four, and let us know what you think.
