Eddie Murphy declined to play Bill Cosby for Saturday Night Live‘s 40th anniversary special, SNL40, according to fellow alum Norm Macdonald. On Wednesday night, Macdonald tweeted “Murphy will not kick a man when he is down.”

Cosby is facing numerous sexual assault accusations in recent months, with many of his accusers alleging he drugged them.

Macdonald is an avid Twitter user, and through a series of 140-character posts, the actor and comedian detailed the process of gathering stars for the weekly comedy show’s anniversary special. Murphy was a cast member during the early ’80s, and has been credited with keeping the show alive during his stint.
