(CBS) The White Sox continued their flurry of offseason moves by signing outfielder Melky Cabrera to a three-year deal late Saturday night, pending a physical, a source told 670thescore.com.
The contract was worth in the vicinity of $45 million, according to a source. Neither Cabrera’s agent nor Chicago had responded to inquiries about the deal as of Saturday evening.
The 30-year-old Cabrera is a .286 lifetime hitter and had another solid season in 2014, when he batted .301 with 16 home runs and 73 RBIs. He also had a .351 on-base percentage.
Cabreara will give the White Sox a solid one-two on-base punch with Adam Eaton leading off and Cabrera batting second in the totally revamped White Sox lineup for 2015.
